What an absolute charming place tucked into the neighborhoods of New Orleans. Owner was fantastically friendly. Their special of the day was Grillades and Grits — cooked to perfection. Savory and satisfying. Wait staff was delightful and prices were very reasonable.Local Guide
Chapter 02 · The corner store that fed the Marigny
Fifteen years on Burgundy
Craig Nero opened Who Dat Coffee Cafe in 2010, two blocks below Esplanade in the Faubourg Marigny — the New Orleans neighborhood where the music keeps going past last call and the houses still wear shotgun trim.
The corner had been a coffee‑and‑breakfast room for years. Craig kept what worked — the pressed‑tin ceilings, the sidewalk seats, the regulars who walk over from Spain Street — and built the kitchen the neighborhood asked for: corn cakes with cheesy‑eggy sauce, catfish benedict on grits, the WhoDat Big Breakfast on Saints Sunday.
“Owner Craig is very accommodating, especially for large groups, and shares interesting stories about the cafe’s history.”
In a city where restaurants change name every three seasons, fifteen years on the same corner is a kind of trust the menu can’t print. The regulars know that. So does Gary the server, who has been calling the orders since you can remember.
